The title, Scuttle, refers to rapid, compulsive movement, and the piece should be approached, in performance, with great energy and intensity. It is vitally important that the quick changes in timbre and playing technique be heard, not as a catalogue of unusual sounds, but as different colourations of a single line. These, then are the surface details of a piece which is driven by, and articulates energy.
