Mitaki (string quintet & live electronics, 2009-2012)
In 2009 Cove Park commissioned me to work with the Scottish Ensemble on Mitaki, a new work for string quintet and live electronics. A residency at Cove Park gave the ensemble the opportunity to work with new technology in this way for the first time, and me to develop ideas working closely and intensively with players.
The title is the Greek name for the sharpsnout seabream (Diplodus puntazzo) - the piece plays with ideas inspired by watching the movement of shoals of small fish and the reflected sunlight on their bodies in the clear, warm waters of the Mediterranean.
