Inheritance Ark (electroacoustic music, narrator, carnyx, 1998)


The performance also involves the reading of the poem of the same name by Aonghas MacNeacail, and an improvising carnyx part played in performance by John Kenny.

In Inheritance Ark, the following performers appear in archive recordings from the School of Scottish Studies at The University of Edinburgh, published by Greentrax Recordings Limited in a series called Scottish Tradition: Kate MacLeod, Nan MacLeod, Murdo MacLeod, John Murray, Annie Arnott, Mary Morrison, Hugh Matheson, Murdina MacDonald, Effie MacDonald, Donald MacLeod, Alasdair Graham. The composer gratefully acknowledges permission to use these materials.

Inheritance Ark was commissioned by the Museums of Scotland for the opening ceremony of the Royal Museum of Scotland, Chambers Street, Edinburgh, 30 November 1998.
